What Starting Care Will Be Like: Page Under Construction
When you arrive for your appointment you will be given some paperwork to fill out, unless you bring the paperwork filled out already. When you are done with the paperwork you will be taken into a treatment room.
The Doctor will do a consultation with you to discuss your health issues and your health history. Then the he or she will do a complete exam, including posture, spinal, range of motion, neurological and orthopedic exam. If the doctor thinks they are needed he/she may take x-rays.
The Doctor will give you a report of findings in which he/she will tell you what shape you are in. If your case is a chiropractic case the doctor will discuss the details of best treatment for you. If your case is not a chiropractic case we will refer you to the appropriate doctor.
Chiropractors treat the nerves through the bones. If the spinal bones are out of the proper position they are called subluxations. When a bone is subluxated or out of the correct position the bone will press on or irritate the nerves. This causes pain, inflammation, swelling and muscle spasms to start with. The worse the nerve irritation is the worse the symptoms. You can have pain going down the legs or arms, numbness, headaches, dizziness and more. The nerve irritation can even affect how the organs function. Your doctor will adjust your bones to relieve the pressure or irritation on the nerves. The adjustment puts the bones in the correct position and therefore relieves the pressure or irritation on the nerves. Some times one adjustment causes the pain and symptoms to go away. If the irritation is severe or long standing it will take time for the healing to occur. The adjustment of the bones is done to fit your needs. Some people respond best to hand adjustments. Others respond best to much lighter techniques such as Activator, Arthrostim, Network, Koren Specific Technique etc. Children and infants are adjusted by gentle finger touches. Our adjustments are so gentle they are even safe for people with fragile osteoporosis. Be sure to tell the doctor how your adjustment feels and how you feel from the adjustments so we fit the therapy to your needs. After the adjustment the doctor may have our staff give you some physical therapy to decrease pain, muscle spasms and swelling if he/she thinks you need it. After the adjustment you will go up the front desk and schedule your next adjustment. At the next visit if the doctor took x-rays he/she will go over your x-rays with you and explain them to you.
What Can I Expect After My Adjustment?
When a bone has been out of the correct position for a while the muscles will change shape and length and then the subluxation (bone out of the correct position that is irritating or pressing on a nerve) becomes a new abnormal normal. After being adjusted you may feel better right away, you may feel no different or you may feel sore from having the bones being put into the correct position. Any of these can happen during the first week or 2 of treatment. After that most patients will start to feel better.
