Go With the Flow
Stress
When we go through a stressful event and it is over we believe the stress is gone from our bodies. That is not true. We can remain stressed for days, weeks, months or years after a stressful event. It is not until we are able to reset our stress thermostat that we are able to return to normal
Decrease Your Day To Day Stress
When we are stressed it is good to remember the song:
Row, Row, Row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.
When we go down stream gently things get done easily. If we try to go up stream we have to struggle and we still do not make it half the time. This simple little song is very profound. And if you are a spiritual type person the song also says to you your spirit is the real you and life is just a dream so don’t sweat it.
De-Stress Yourself with Breathing
Most of us do not breathe properly. When we get stressed our natural breathing changes and we do not aerate our bodies as well. So it helps us relax in the moment to breathe deeply. It is also good to practice at home to see how you are breathing when you are relaxing.
Lie on your bed and just breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Notice if you stop at the end of inhalation [breathing in] or at the end of exhalation [breathing out]. Notice if you have any pauses or skips in your breath or if it is smooth.
Stress causes us to stop at the end of inhalation and/or exhalation as well as have skips or gaps in our breathing. Even when you are relaxed you will find this.
So practice breathing in an out without pauses at the end of your inhalation or exhalation. Practice breathing smoothly without gaps in your breath. As you do this you are changing your physiology more towards true relaxation. Take about 30 minutes and do this for yourself. It may even help you sleep better.
Every day do at least 26 deep breaths throughout your day to aerate your body and relax yourself.
Singing
Singing is deep breathing. It is relaxing and the tones stimulate different parts of your body and can produce healing and relaxation. So whenever you can sing. Sing while you work, while you play, and when you are stressed to calm yourself down.
